Cerebellar Vermis: Topography and Variations International Journal of Morphology
Bispo,Rodrigo Freitas Monte; Ramalho,Antonio José Casado; Gusmão,Luiz Carlos Buarque de; Cavalcante,Amundson Portela  de Holanda; Rocha,Amauri Clemente da; Sousa-Rodrigues,Célio Fernando de.
The vermis is described as the unpaired, median portion of the cerebellum to which the hemispheres are attached. Both the vermis and the hemispheres are formed by folia that, grouped together, are called lobules. The material analyzed consisted of a sample made up of 43 adult male cerebella fixed in 10% formaldehyde and sliced medially. The lingula was attached to the superior medullary velum in 100% (43) of the cerebella, varying only in size. In 80% (32) of the cerebella, the central lobe contained one folium; 7.5% (3) had two folia with the first larger than the second; 10% (4) had two folia with the second larger than the first; and 2.5% (1) had two folia of equal size. In 5% (2) of the cerebella, the folium of the vermis emerged from the declive; in...

Formation of the Azygos Vein International Journal of Morphology
Alves,Elton Correia; Porciúncula Junior,Wellington Rodrigues; Monte Bispo,Rodrigo Freitas; Sousa-Rodrigues,Célio Fernando de; da Rocha,Amauri Clemente.
The aim of the present study was to determine the most common origin of the azygos vein. Thirty cadavers male and female, white and non-white adult individuals of different ages fixed in 10% formaldehyde and dissected. All cadavers had an undisclosed clinical death and were donated to the Universidade Estadual de Ciências da Saúde de Alagoa s, Brazil. Eleven different formations were found. The right subcostal vein was was only observed in 13 cases (43.33%); the azygos vein was formed by the confluence of the right subcostal and right ascending lumbar vein in three cases (10%); by the right subcostal vein with a contribution from the inferior vena cava (IVC) in three cases (10%); by the right subcostal with contribution from IVC and right ascending lumbar...

Morphologic Aspects of Abductor digiti minimi Muscle in the Hand International Journal of Morphology
Buarque de Gusmão,Luiz Carlos; Frassy Feijó,Mario Jorge; Sousa-Rodrigues,Célio Fernando de.
The Abductor digiti minimi muscle, and the other hypotenar muscles, frequently presents anatomical variations. According to literature, this muscle can be composed by one, two or three muscular beams, as well as it can present accessory muscular beams. In dissecations of 40 formolized hands, we objectified to study the morphology and variations of the Abductor digiti minimi muscle. The muscle presented two muscular beams in 82,5 %, three beams in 15% and only 1 beam in 2,5 % of the cases. In none of cases accessory muscular beams were observed. When compared with literature, are observed statistics difference in some studied aspects. The results found in the research allow to affirm that the Abductor digiti minimi muscle is formed by two muscular beams in...

Mucous Membrane of the Rumen of Ovines, Fed With Spineless, Forrage Cactus or Palm (Barbary Fig) (Opuntia ficus indica Mil): Hystochemical Study by Means of Light Microscopy International Journal of Morphology
Neiva,Gentileza Santos Martins; da Mota,Diógenes Luís; Batista,Ângela Maria Vieira; Sousa-Rodrigues,Célio Fernando de.
The mucosa of the rumen performs the functions of absorption, transportation, metabolism and protection, due to the presence of microorganisms in this compartment of the digestive tract, which are responsible for the digestion of approximately 60% of the organic material apparently digested. The histological structure and the histochemical profile of glicoconjugate of the mucosa of the stomach of sheep that were being fed with forrage cactus or palm (Giant Palm - Opuntia ficus indica Mil)1. Twelve sheep were used, with approximately 14 months old, which were oddly distributed in four diets: D1- 60.0% forrage palm + 40.0% concentrated ration; D2- 47.5% forrage palm + 12.5% elephant, napier grass + 40.0% concentrated ration, and D3 - 34,8% forrage palm +...
